I’m Erasmo Valencia — This Is My Story
More than 30 years ago, I began a journey that would change my life forever. At a time when fly fishing in Punta de Mita was considered impossible, I chose a different path. Most people believed chasing saltwater fish with a fly rod was unrealistic, and many of my fellow fishermen laughed at the idea. Introducing this style of fishing to our waters seemed like an impossible dream.
But I never stopped believing.
The person who inspired that dream was my dear friend Rick Thrun. He introduced me to the world of fly fishing, gave me my very first fly rod, and simply said, “Let’s go fly fishing.” I remember answering that I didn’t even know what fly fishing was. He smiled and replied, “Just learn. Take me to your fishing spots, and we’ll figure it out together.”
Those words changed my life.
Countless hours on the water, endless practice, and an unwavering passion allowed me to master this incredible sport. Today, I am proud to have become one of the pioneers of saltwater fly fishing in Punta de Mita. What was once considered impossible has grown into a respected and exciting fishery that attracts anglers from around the world.
